Skywatch® IoMET

IoMET weather station

The IoMET measures wind speed, temperature and relative humidity. It was developed for fine-granularity outdoor weather measurements or micro-climatic conditions within greenhouses or vertical farms:

  • An omnidirectional wind turbine which measures the wind horizontally and vertically.
  • Integral shield for humidity and temperature sensors.
  • Solar irradiation*
  • Ease of deployment: mount in seconds
  • High autonomy: three years continous use
  • Rechargeable lithium-polymer battery
  • Solar-power for completely autonomous operation*
  • Rugged, waterproof housing

* available to special order

Applications

Technical data

The IoMET measures the following:

  • Wind speed
  • Humidity
  • Temperature
  • Barometric pressure

The data is transferred via LoRa over The Things Network and the packet format is as follows:

TTN

Each weather station has a serial number used as unique id for TTN.

The Deveui will be 0x31353430 + 4 bytes serial number
exemple for a SN of 4000 : DevEui= 0x3135343000000FA0

The AppKey is user-configurable

The IoMET comprises the weather station and a mounting bracket which may be attached by screws or straps to a perpendicular surface.

To fix the weather station to the bracket:

  • Unscrew the heat shield from the humidifier probe at the bottom of the unit
  • Make a 12mm hole in the bracket and pass the humidifier probe into the hole from above
  • Replace the heat shield

Measurement

Temperature Humidity Pressure Wind speed
Units of measurement Degree Celsius RH % hPa m/s
Resolution 0.1 °C 0.5% 0.1 hPa 0.01 m/s
Precision +- 0.3 °C 2% +- 0.05 hPa +- 1 m/s
Range of measurement 0°C to 65°C 10% to 90% 260 to 1260 hPa 0 m/s to 50 m/s

Wireless

  • LoRaWAN class A
  • Specification 1.0.2 revision B
  • Europe 863 – 870 MHz

Battery

  • LiPo 1C 3.7V 1580mAh
  • 1 year autonomy (at 1 measure every 15mn)
  • Power supply via micro USB rechargeable battery, with battery charge indicator

Maintenace

Opening the case

Access the board-mounted micro-USB connector to configure and charge the device, unscrew the top screw and gently remove the top.

Closing the case

Ensure that the O-ring seal is clean and intact to prevent moisture ingress. Gently apply the top case half to the bottom case half.

Replace the top screw, ensuring it is fully-seated (there is another O-ring between the top-screw and the case) and the circlip holding the top screw captive is intact.

Battery level

The battery level is sent across lora in a specific packet every 24h

0 to 100% with a resolution of 1 LSB = 0.5%

Plug in the micro-USB cable to recharge the battery. A complete charge take 3h. The charge indicator is on until the charge is complete.

  • You need first to add your device to TTN
  • Go to applications
  • Create an application
  • In the application go to End devices
  • Register end device
  • Enter given DevEUI and AppKey and click on Register end device
  • Open the top case
  • Connect the battery
  • Now your data will be sent on TTN !
